Just wanted to thank all the guys on this forum that supported us during the Pau Ferro Clearance we recently had. I've had a couple of emails regarding when the orders would arrive. So, to let you know, one of the orders shipped at that time arrived today. So, please be patient if you haven't received yours...as it will surely arrive in the next few days. Thanks again to everyone..

Don, that Rosewood was legally purchased according to Brazilian law in which I have a note for. It was purchased from a legal company that has been in business here for 53 years and it was legally harvested and legally sold to me. However, there is only one way to obtain legal export papers for it but, it would have to be done by illegal means if that makes sense. So, do illegally obtained "legal papers" justify it ? A little complicated huh ? So, to answer your question..it is available "as is" without a passport. |

I understand....sounds like crooked politicians or corrupt people in the gov't in a place to take advantage. The problem then is still a question of International Law, which the CITES certificates cover. Without it, you would be exporting illegally. You gotta have the papers, or risk (gulp)...what's prison like down there anyway????? |

I don't think you'd be facing jailtime or anything over a single set but I'd bet customs seizes it. Who pays for it if it's seized? |

Jeff, Unlike Don, I don't understand. "As is" means what? Aren't you legally bound to supply papers if you are shipping from Brazil? I understand that you pass that cost on to the customer. I didn't think that this is a grey area. What am I missing? |

Jeff, I just got my order. Very nice wood ( PAO ) and great price. You need to do something about the shipping cost tho...Here in the US we just aren't used to high ship rates. Overall the buy was still a good deal. The product is excellent. |

Tom, The bottom line here is that "As is" represents wood that can be seized in customs, and puts the adressee at risk of Federal legal entanglements. Let the buyer beware! Having the papers is the only safe and legal way to import the wood. |

When I started this thread it was only to inform those on the forum of the status of the orders of "Pau Ferro" they were so kind to order from us a few weeks ago. It wasn't to try and promote the sale of or start a legal issue over BRW. If you have questions/comments regarding my site, please email me directly at: info@braziltonewoods.com Dave...I'm glad you received your order and are pleased with the sets. I received another email that someone else had also received theirs. I'm glad they have started arriving. As for the shipping...the only alternative I have and am truly considering it, is to ship 50 to 100 sets to our warehouse in Miami and ship from there. I would have to increase the price of each set a few dollars to compensate for the shipping costs but, I think the sets would still be a good deal and the shipping would be about 1/3 of the costs within the US. Thanks again for your business. If anyone who ordered doesn't receive their order by the end of this week please notify me so I can have the PO track it. |

Jeff, I wasn't trying to start a legal issue over BRW. Just was confused at what you were saying. I still am, but that is ok. My bad, you are right, it would have been more appropriate to email you. Sorry. |
